Water Dept. Equipment Operator
The City of Woonsocket, Rhode Island, Public Works Department, Water Division, is conducting a search for Water Dept. Equipment Operator. Working under the direction of the Water Division Superintendent, the individual in this position will be responsible for operating and repairing treatment plant equipment, as well as assisting the Plant Equipment Mechanic, as needed. Specific duties include, but are not limited to, the following: operating and maintaining trucks and treatment plant equipment, and assisting in the operation of the treatment plant. A high school diploma, or a GED equivalent, is required. One (1) year of experience of truck driving, and two (2) experience of mechanical skill. Must possess a Class 1 Distribution Operator License within one (1) year of employment.

JOB TITLE: Water Dept. Equipment Operator
DEPARTMENT/DIVISION: Public Works Department/Water Division
PAY GRADE/HOURS: Grade M67 / 40-hour work week
UNION: Local 670, RI Council 94, AFSCME, AFL-CIO
POSITION SUMMARY: Under the direction and supervision of the Water Division Superintendent, the Water Dept. Equipment Operator operates and repairs treatment plant equipment, assist the Plant Equipment Mechanic, drives trucks and other motor equipment related to treatment plant operation, and does related work as required.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Operates trucks and other treatment plant motor equipment.
- Assists in the operation of the treatment plant.
- Acts as assistant to the Plant Equipment Mechanic in operation. Maintenance and repair of the treatment plant and equipment.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS: A high school diploma or a GED equivalent, is required. One (1) year of experience in truck driving and two (2) years of experience in a field requiring mechanical skill and ability. Must possess a Class 1 Distribution Operator License within one (1) year of employment.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND PERSONAL QUALITIES: Ability to perform mechanical, maintenance and repair work. Knowledge of maintenance tools, good driving ability, and resourcefulness. Skilled in the use of tools, resourcefulness, ingenuity, and mechanical ability.
