Woonsocket Harris Public Library


The City of Woonsocket, Rhode Island is conducting a search for a Janitor for the Woonsocket Harris Public Library.  Working under the supervision of the Library Director, the Janitor/Security performs a wide variety of job duties.  Specific job duties are, but not limited to the following:  responsible for all cleaning and maintenance work of the library building and grounds, performs cleaning services as necessary on a daily or weekly basis, supervises and maintains library grounds, cleans and maintains all library tools and equipment, assists in snow removal, and works on other general related tasks as assigned.  A high school diploma or a GED equivalent, is required.  Must possess janitorial experience.

Weekly Rate:     $809.79 to $822.13 per week          [M28]

Hours of Work:     40 Hours Per Week

JOB TITLE:                           Janitor/Security (Library)


DEPARTMENT/DIVISION:  Legislative Department/Board of Library Trustees Division


PAY GRADE/HOURS:          Grade M28  /  40-hour work week


UNION:                                  Local 670, RI Council 94, AFSCME, AFL-CIO


POSITION SUMMARY:  Under the direction of the Director of Library, the Janitor/Security (Library) performs cleaning and maintenance work of the library building and grounds; and does related work as required.


DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Performs maintenance on both the exterior and interior of the library.
  • Performs carpentry, painting, electrical mechanical and boiler room maintenance.
  • Repairs tables, chairs, shelves, doors, windows, and office and lounge furniture.
  • Maintains and repairs plumbing fixtures and replaces broken plumbing fixtures.
  • Maintains and repairs electrical outlets, switches and fans, toilets and floorings.
  • Sweeps, cleans, dusts and vacuums carpeting.
  • Cleans restrooms and fixtures
  • Dusts and polishes furniture.
  • Empties waste baskets, washes windows, and assists with other trash.
  • Dusts books and shelves.
  • General groundskeeping, tree and shrub trimming, grass cutting, snow removal of walkways and entrances.
  • Assists librarian on duty in any disciplinary action that is required.
  • Performs other duties as required.


QUALIFICATIONS:  A high school diploma or a GED equivalent, is required.  Must have two (2) years of experience in the areas of maintenance and janitorial fields.


KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND PERSONAL QUALITIES:  Good knowledge of building, cleaning and maintenance requirements.  Ability to perform reasonable heavy manual work, thoroughness, courtesy, tact and dependability.
